Wikis

In simple terms, a wiki is a type of web page. You might get the idea from some of the descriptions on the web that wikis or wiki pages are group projects; they don't have to be, even though Howstuffworks states "A wiki allows a group of people to enter and communally edit bits of text. These bits of text can be viewed and edited by anyone who visits the wiki."! While group collaboration is certainly permissible and often even desirable, it is possible to restrict authoring and editing on a wiki to one individual.

Wikis allow the user to incorporate audio, images, and video. Seven things you should know about wikis gives a good overview of the use of wikis in teaching.
